National Census Issued on Dec. 1, 1960 (Showa35) The postwar Okinawa census began in 1950, and in 1960 the main census was conducted once every 10 years. After that, it was re-implemented in 1970 and then transferred to Japan. The population of Okinawa in 1960 was about 880,000, an increase of about 550,000 from the current 1.43 million. The stamp was issued in commemoration of this survey and is designed with "Osagi Bird and Morning Sunshine".
