40th Anniv. of Naha City Issued on May 20, 1961 (Showa36) The Naha Special District, which is the central city of Okinawa's prefectural capital, became Naha City in 1921 (Taisho 10) due to the enforcement of the city system. Naha City has the smallest area and high population density among the prefectural capitals of Japan. The stamp was issued in May 1961 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Naha municipal organization, and was issued by an open sea ship, Naha city, a crown ship (Okansen: a ship dispatched in the name of the Chinese emperor) and the Naha city emblem is designed.
