Merger of Towns Issued on Oct. 1, 1961 (Showa36)

Merger of Towns Issued on Oct. 1, 1961 (Showa36) In November 1956, the Ryukyu government promulgated the "Municipal Merger Promotion Law" and embarked on an island-wide merger plan. In March 1960, 14 merger blocks were set for the cities, towns and villages of the main island of Okinawa, Kumejima, Miyako Islands, and Yaeyama Islands. The stamp was issued in commemoration of this, and depicts Hakugindo (a chapel dedicated to the sea god in Itoman City). This stamp was not printed by the Ministry of Finance in time and was printed by a private company, so there are many errors such as different printing colors and missing of stamp perforation.
