読書週間 1961（昭和36年） 11月 12日発行 読書週間は、読書の普及を目的に日本全国で毎年秋に行われる。1947（昭和22）年に開始され，1959年（昭和34）から，日本図書館協会などが承継している。沖縄では、1951年（昭和26）から始まった。切手は、沖縄の読書週間10周年を記念して発行され、書籍とハトがデザインされている。因みに、この切手が沖縄初の「みほん切手」である。
Book Reading Week Issued on Nov. 12, 1961 (Showa36) Reading Week is held every fall throughout Japan for the purpose of popularizing reading. It started in 1947 (Showa 22) and has been succeeded by the Japan Library Association since 1959 (Showa 34). In Okinawa, it started in 1951 (Showa 26). Stamps are issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Okinawa's reading week, and are designed with books and pigeons. By the way, this stamp is Okinawa's first "Spacimen stamp".
