Tokyo Olympics Torch Relay in Okinawa Issued on Sept. 7, 1964 (Showa39) At the time of 1964, the administration of Okinawa was not in Japan but in the United States, but the people of Okinawa wanted to share the excitement of the Tokyo Olympics as a member of Japan. Therefore, the Torch Commission officially decided to hold a torch relay on July 4, 1962. The torch arrived one day late due to the typhoon, but the torch relay was held on September 7, 1964 as scheduled. A stamp was issued to commemorate this, the "Torch, the Olympic Games, and Shureimon" were designed. This stamp is distributed with 1500 Spacimen overprints.
