70th Anniv. of Emigration to Hawaii Issued on Dec. 5, 1969 (Showa44) Japanese immigrants to Hawaii began in 1885 (Meiji 18). Then, in 1900 (Meiji 33), Hawaii immigration to Okinawa began. According to the population data on Japanese Americans in Hawaii, in 1924 (Taisho 13), the number of people from Okinawa reached 16,536, the fourth highest. The contributor to Hawaii immigrants from Okinawa is Kyuzo Toyama. He worked diligently on overseas migration plans and realized immigration from Okinawa to Hawaii. The stamp is designed with a statue of Kyuzo Toyama and a map of Hawaii and Okinawa.This stamp was hurry issued in 1969 from 1970. So, it was overprinted '1969'.
