50th Anniversary of Naha Municipality Issued on May 20, 1971 (Showa46)

50th Anniversary of Naha Municipality Issued on May 20, 1971 (Showa46) Admiral Perry landed in Naha in 1853, the year before the opening of Japan. In 1879 (Meiji 12), the abolition of the feudal clan established a prefectural office in Naha, which replaced Shuri as the political, economic, and cultural center of Okinawa Prefecture. On May 20, 1921 (Taisho 10), the special ward system was abolished, and the general city system similar to other prefectures was enforced, becoming Naha City. In 1971 (Showa 46), Naha City celebrated the 50th anniversary of the enforcement of the city system. Stamps are issued in commemoration of that, and the city emblem and the old and new Naha city are designed. Reference: "Naha City Home Page" 2022.3
