1st Regular Issues(1st Printing) Issued on Jul. 1 , 1948 (Showa23) Okinawa was annihilated by the US military in June 1945 (Showa 20) at the end of the Pacific War. The US military government was established in December of the same year, and the Ryukyu civil government was established in March 1946 (Showa 21). Immediately after the end of the war, the postal situation in Okinawa continued to deliver the mail necessary for confirming the safety of the islanders and for important communications. Until June 1948 (Showa 23), provisional stamps stamped with the postmaster were used for the Japanese stamps so far. After that, from July 1948, regular printed stamps ( 7 types of B-yen stamps) were issued as Ryukyu mail. * B-yen(Sen) is a currency temporarily issued by the US military
as a Japanese yen military vote in Okinawa after the war.
