第1次普通初版 1948年（昭和23年）7月1日発行 沖縄は、太平洋戦争末期の1945年（昭和20）6月、アメリカ軍により殲滅された。同年12月にアメリカ軍政府が設置され、1946年（昭和21）3月、琉球民政府が設立された。終戦直後の沖縄の郵便事情は、島民の安否確認や重要な通信に必要な郵便は継続して配送実施された。1948年（昭和23）6月までは、今迄の日本切手に、郵便局長の印を押した暫定切手が使用された。その後、1948年7月から、琉球郵便として正規印刷切手（B円＊切手7種）が発行された。 ＊B円（銭）とは、終戦後の沖縄で暫定的に米軍が日本円軍票として発行した通貨。

Okinawa was annihilated by the US military in June 1945 (Showa 20) at the end of the Pacific War. The US military government was established in December of the same year, and the Ryukyu civil government was established in March 1946 (Showa 21). Immediately after the end of the war, the postal situation in Okinawa continued to deliver the mail necessary for confirming the safety of the islanders and for important communications. Until June 1948 (Showa 23), provisional stamps stamped with the postmaster were used for the Japanese stamps so far. After that, from July 1948, regular printed stamps ( 7 types of B-yen stamps) were issued as Ryukyu mail. * B-yen(Sen) is a currency temporarily issued by the US military
as a Japanese yen military vote in Okinawa after the war.
