World Puppetry Festival Issued on July 27, 1988 (Showa 63) The World Puppet Festival was founded in 1961. This festival is an international event for puppet shows around the world and takes place every two years. About 250 companies from all over the world will gather to showcase their creative puppet show to more than 150,000 spectators. The techniques there range from traditional puppets to pods and threads, to modern innovations, puppet shows, and shadow theaters. The stamp was issued in commemoration of this event held in Tokyo in 1988, and introduces four dolls from around the world.
