Inauguration of Seikan Tunnel Issued on March 11, 1988 (Showa 63) The Seikan Tunnel is a railway tunnel that connects Aomori Prefecture in Honshu and Hokkaido, which opened in March 1988. It was built by the Japan Railway Construction Public Corporation and is currently managed and operated by JR Hokkaido.The stamp was issued to commemorate the opening of the stamp, and the "Map of ED79 Electric Locomotive and Seikan Tunnel" is designed.A stamp booklet was issued on July 8th of the same year.
