近代水道100年 1987年（昭和62年） 10月 16日発行
日本の近代水道は、1887年（明治20年）10月、イギリス人技師の指導で、横浜に初めて創設された。「近代水道」とは、川の水を濾過（ろか）して、鉄管で有圧で給水する水道のことで、今日の私たちが使っている水道の仕組みと同じものである。
切手は近代水道100年を記念して発行され、日本初の共用水道蛇口がデザインされている。

Japan's modern water supply was first established in Yokohama in October 1887 (Meiji 20) under the guidance of a British engineer. The "modern water supply" is a water supply that filters river water and supplies it under pressure with iron pipes, which is the same as the water supply system we use today.
The stamp was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of modern water services, and Japan's first shared water service faucet was designed.
