Cent. of Zoo Gardens Issued on March 20, 1982 (Showa 57) The first zoo in Japan was established in 1882 (Meiji 15). Ueno Zoo, a gift from Tokyo Ueno. Ueno Zoo not only has a long history, but also boasts the largest number of visitors in Japan. By the way, the second oldest zoo in Japan is the Kyoto City Zoo, which opened in 1903, and the third is the Tennoji Zoo, which opened in 1915.The stamps are designed with gorillas and flamingos, lions and penguins, pandas and elephants, giraffes and zebras.
