International Children's Year Issued on August 1, 1979 (Showa 54) UNESCO declared the International Year of the Child in 1979. The Declaration was signed in January 1979 by his Secretary-General, Kurt Waldheim. This Declaration is a follow-up to the 1959 Declaration of the Rights of the Child and aims to draw attention to issues affecting children around the world, such as malnutrition and lack of education.
In commemoration of this, two kinds of stamps and a small sheet were issued, and "Girls and boys of spacewalk" are designed.
