新東京国際空港は、千葉県成田市に建設された国内最大級の国際空港である。経済成長による航空輸送量拡大によって、羽田空港の発着回数が限界に達したため，1966年，成田市三里塚地区に建設が着手された。しかし，地元の農民（及び左翼過激派）による激しい反対運動のため，正式開港は'１２年後の1978年と大幅に遅れた。
切手は新空港開港を記念して発行され、ターミナルビルと旅客機がデザインされている。

New Tokyo International Airport is one of the largest international airports in Japan developed in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture. Due to the expansion of air transportation volume due to economic growth, the number of departures and arrivals at Haneda Airport reached the limit, and construction was started in the Sanrizuka district of Narita City in 1966.
However, due to fierce opposition from local farmers (＆left-wing extremists), the official opening of the port was significantly delayed from 1978, 12 years later.Stamps were issued to commemorate the opening of the new airport. The terminal building and passenger plane are designed.
