Postal Saving Centenary Issued on October 24, 1975 (Showa 50) Japan's postal savings were started by Maejima Hisoka in 1875 (Meiji 8) with reference to the British postal savings system. Along with postal exchange and postal transfer, it was called the exchange savings business. It was the fourth largest postal savings company in the world after the United Kingdom, Belgium and New Zealand. Stamps are issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary, and coins are designed in the piggy bank.
