Metropolitan Expressway Issued on August 1, 1964 (Showa 39)

Metropolitan Expressway Issued on August 1, 1964 (Showa 39) After the war, the Metropolitan Expressway was planned in Tokyo for the purpose of alleviating traffic congestion due to the rapid increase in traffic volume, and in June 1959, the "Metropolitan Expressway Public Corporation" was established. Since it was decided to hold the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo in May 1959, the Metropolitan Expressway was designated as the Olympic Expressway with 5 routes and 31 km. Therefore, it was the greatest mission to open the highway by the time the Olympic Games were held in October 1964. In December 1962, the section connecting Haneda Airport and the National Stadium was opened in August 1964, including the opening of the Metropolitan Expressway Line 1 between Kyobashi and Shibaura for about 4.5 km. Finally, by October 1, 1964, 33km including the Olympic-related highway was opened.A stamp was issued to commemorate this completion, and the area around Nihonbashi on the Metropolitan Expressway is designed.
