Trans-Pacific Submarine Cable Issued on June 19, 1964 (Showa 39) In June 1964, the Trans-Pacific Cable (TPC-1) went into operation. This submarine communication facility is the world's first trans-Pacific telephone cable for communicating international calls between Japan and the United States, and was laid over about 10,000km between Japan, Guam, and Hawaii. TPC-1 is a national-scale project ahead of the Tokyo Olympics held in October 1964, along with the opening of the Tokaido Shinkansen. At the time of opening, Japanese Prime Minister Hayato Ikeda and US President Johnson made a commemorative call.The stamp is issued to commemorate the opening, and the cross section of the cable and the waypoints are designed.
