Wedding of Crown Prince Issued on April 10, 1959 (Showa 34)

Wedding of Crown Prince Issued on April 10, 1959 (Showa 34) In November 1958, the Imperial Household Agency announced the engagement between the Crown Prince (Akihito, now the Emperor) and Michiko Shoda, the daughter of the president of Nissin Wheat Co., Ltd. At that time, the imperial family had no precedent for marrying a civilian, and this was the first marriage.
On April 10, 1959, a "marriage ceremony" was held at the Tohgu Temporary Palace, and a horse-drawn carriage parade was held from the Imperial Palace to the Tohgu Temporary Palace in Shibuya. A crowd of 530,000 people packed along the road, and the parade was broadcast live on NHK TV. TV sold explosively to watch this pattern, and the number of NHK reception contracts exceeded 2 million units.
The stamps are designed by Hiogi (Fan), Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko.
