Iron Manufacturing Industry
Issued on December 1, 1957 (Showa 32)

Iron Manufacturing Industry Issued on December 1, 1957 (Showa 32) Japan's modern steel industry began in December 1857 when Japan's first Westernstyle blast furnace began operations in Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture. It was the year after the arrival of the Black Ships, and Japan needed a large amount of iron as a cannon material to solidify the sea defense. This Western-style blast furnace operation has enabled Japan to efficiently mass-produce steel.
The stamps are designed with the first blast furnace and the 1957 blast furnace.
