Completion of Nuclear Reactor Issued on September 18, 1957 (Showa 32) In 1953, President Eisenhower made a speech on "Atoms for Peace" on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and developed countries such as the United States took the first step toward nuclear power generation. Japan budgeted for nuclear energy in 1954, and preparations were made for research and utilization of nuclear energy.
The Atomic Energy Commission was established in 1956, and in 1957, "Japan Atomic Power Company" was established to promote the introduction of nuclear power reactors. Construction work began in 1960 in Tokai Village, Ibaraki Prefecture, and in 1965, the No. 1 reactor reached its first criticality. The stamp is designed for a nuclear reactor.
