東海道電化完成 1956年（昭和31年） 11月 19日発行
国鉄（現在のＪＲ）東海道本線の東京から神戸までの全線が電化された。それに伴い、運転車両は、蒸気機関車（C62型）から電気機関車（EF５８型）へ更新された。これによって、東京～大阪間の所要時間は、８時間から７時間半に短縮された。
切手は、EF５８型電気機関車と、安藤広重作浮世絵「油井」がデザインされている。
Electrification of Tokaido Line Issued on November 19, 1956 (Showa 31)
The entire line from Tokyo to Kobe on the Japanese National Railways (currently JR) Tokaido Main Line has been electrified. Along with that, the driving vehicle was updated from a steam locomotive (C62 type) to an electric locomotive (EF58 type).
As a result, the travel time between Tokyo and Osaka has been reduced from eight hours to seven and a half hours.The stamps are EF58 type electric locomotive and Hiroshige Ando; "Yui, one of the 53rd Tokaido" is designed.
